Memorial services for Marjorie E. Portwood, 76 of Norfolk will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Christ Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Portwood the wife of John Portwood died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Marjorie was born on July 12, 1936 near Vermillion, SD the daughter of Arnold and Lillie (Severson) Christopherson. She graduated from Volin High School and then received her teaching certificate from the Yankton College. She taught for one year in Norfolk at Northern Hills Elementary School and then in Winside for one year.
Marjorie married John Portwood on August 4, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermillion. The couple made their home in Norfolk and after raising her children she then worked for the Education Service Tower School in Wayne.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and belonged to the Braille group and Stephens Ministry, enjoyed playing Bridge and attending Athletic and school events.
Marjorie is survived by her husband John Portwood of Norfolk, her children, Michael Portwood of Bloomfield, Von and Carey Portwood of Norfolk, and Sonja Griesel, one grandson Brian Griesel both of Omaha, and one brother Verdon Christopherson of Sioux Falls, SD.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and one son in-law Mark Griesel.
