Lawson M. Walz

Funeral services for Lawson Miles Walz, 6, of Battle Creek will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Norfolk.  Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Battle Creek.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. with Rosary following at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Norfolk.  Steffen Mortuary of Battle Creek is in charge of arrangements.

            Lawson passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013 at his home near Battle Creek.

Lawson “Smiles” Walz was born February 25, 2007 in Norfolk the son of Lawrence R. and Amy (Warneke) Walz III. 

            Lawson completed Kindergarten at St. John’s Lutheran School in Battle Creek, where he grew in love for Jesus and showed his talent and his excitement to quote scripture.  He was passionate about baseball, an eager outdoor lover and enthusiastic wrestler. This past year Lawson was proud to share with everyone his first place wresting trophies. Lawson treasured growing up on a farm where he could grow his sweet corn and actively participate in all things a farm boy loves.  Lawson shared his family’s passion of the outdoors by going camping, fishing and hunting at every opportunity. He was known for his constant and contagious smile and special knack for playing practical jokes. Lawson cherished every moment with his family, classmates, teammates and friends.

            Lawson is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Amy Walz III, sister Ashley Walz, and brother Lawrence “Buddy” Walz IV, grandparents Arvid and Jane Warneke, and great grandparents Don and Mildred Praeuner, Aunts and Uncles; Dominic and Dori Hoffmann, Mike and Denise Gellerman, Curtis and Jodi Borchers, Anthony Warneke and Lisa Walton, Chad and Andrea Kelderman and many cousins.

            He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lawrence R. Walz Jr. and Janneil (Cederburg) Walz.
