Ardell G. Johnson

Mass of Christian Burial for Ardell G. Johnson, 74, Madison, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.  Reverend Scott Schilmoeller will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at Sacred Heart Church.  Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

He passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Ardell Gene was born July 22, 1944 in Dixon, NE to his parents Gunnar and Ellen (Johnson) Johnson.  He grew up in the Laurel area and graduated from Laurel High School.  Following graduation, he obtained his teaching certificate from Wayne State College.  Ardell taught history and social studies in Alton, IA and Leigh, NE. 

Ardell married Margaret Clinch on June 1, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk.  Ardell worked with his father-in-law farming.

He worked a variety of jobs at Kinning and Reil, Dale Electronics, Hastings Book Store, and attended Norfolk Liberty Center.  Ardell had a lot of books and enjoyed reading and watching television shows about Westerns and history.  Also, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Eucharistic Minister.

He is survived by his wife, children Marie Johnson of Norfolk, Paul Johnson of Madison, Patrick Johnson of Madison, Philip Johnson of West Des Moines, IA, and David (Beth Moorehouse) Johnson of Montourville, PA, grandchildren Wesley and Claire, sister Carol Johnson of Sioux City, IA and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children.
