August J. "Gus" Eilerts, Jr.

Funeral Services for August J. “Gus” Eilerts, Jr., 93, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue.  Reverend B.J. Fouts will officiate.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Home for Funerals Chapel.

Gus passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Norfolk Care and Rehabilitation Center in Norfolk. 

August John was born October 25, 1925 in Coleridge, Nebraska to his parents August and Cella (Olsen) Eilerts.  Gus was raised on the family farm.  At the age of nineteen, Gus and his father began their truck driving business, Eilerts Trucking, and he began his life-long profession.  Also, he drove for Droescher out of Beemer before moving to Norfolk.  In 1963, Gus started working for Abler Transfer and also for General Wholesale and Clark Brothers until his retirement.   

On June 14, 1953, Gus married Dorothy Fillmer in West Point, Nebraska.

Gus enjoyed fishing and spending time with grandchildren.  Gus spent his last four years at Norfolk Care and Rehab, where he was part of their family and was well cared for. 

He is survived by his children Dave (Peggy) Eilerts of Norfolk, Linda (Jim) Chapman of Norfolk, and Jolene (Charles) Bergland of Norfolk, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sisters Janet Meyer of Coleridge, Marlene Beck of Lincoln, and Cleo (Norman) Hollander of Albuquerque, NM, sister-in-law Janice Eilerts of West Point, and nieces and nephews.

Gus was preceded in death by his parents, wife who died in 1984, sister Elizabeth, and brother Jim.
