Jesus carried her to her heavenly home on Thursday, December 20, 2018.
Barbara Sue was born March 28, 1925 in Nashville, TN to her parents Paul Cullom and Laura Donelson (Hayes) Hodges. She received her education from Galloway and Byram Elementary Schools in Jackson, MS and Hume Fogg High School in Nashville, TN.
Barbara met George E. Fox of Tilden, NE while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force, stationed in Smyrna, TN during World War II. They married on December 26, 1942 in Franklin, KY. George and Barbara were married for 74 years. They lived in Tilden for 43 years and Ft. Myers, FL for 31 years, enjoying their retirement years between the two homes.
Barbara’s deeply held faith and love of her family were the most important things in her life. She filled her time with homemaking, raising her children, prayer, gardening and canning, a love of flowers, and providing compassionate care as a nurse’s aide at the Manor Hall Nursing Home for many years. Barbara was a faithful member of Winkler Road Baptist Church where she was a teacher’s aide for the private Christian School.
She is survived by her children Sharon (Lee) Klein of Norfolk, George E. Fox (Peggy Congleton) of Tilden, Sue (Dennis) Kleider of Omaha, James (Mary) Fox, Laura (Don) Rutjens, Marilyn (Ron) Eymann all of Tilden, Donald (Ann) Fox of LeHigh Acres, FL, Richard (Joann) Fox of Cape Coral, FL, and Karolyn (Larry) Noughton of Ft. Myers, FL, 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, 8 nieces, 10 nephews, and sister-in-law Jean Fox of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, George, in January 2017, her parents, her 3 sisters, Laura (Polly) Osborn of Jackson, MS, Ida Darnell (Donnie) LaForce of Anderson, SC, and Constance Hodges of Lakeland, FL, and great grandson Elliott Fox Kottas.
