Memorial Services for Darlene “Dot” M. Volquardsen, 90, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Norfolk. Reverend Leon Rosenthal will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.

She passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

 Darlene May was born July 1, 1928 in Bonesteel, SD to Tom and Ella (Benck) Kaspar. She moved to Norfolk at age 10. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Darlene graduated high school and was married; three daughters were born to this union. In 1958, she married Orlen Volquardsen, who had a daughter and a son.

Darlene worked as a waitress and later worked 20 years at True Value Master Mart. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary. She served as president and district president.

 Darlene loved sewing, embroidery, bowling, cross word puzzles, and reading mystery books. She made costumes for the Norfolk Community Theatre. At age 65, she landed a lead role in the play “Cemetery Club.” Darlene founded the Kaspar Cousins reunion which is held every year.

Darlene is survived by three children: Cheryl (Robert) Murphy, Jean (Mike Sullivan) Dederman, Randall (Eileen) Volquardsen, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Her nieces and nephews and their families are honorary pallbearers. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Orlen, daughter Gayle, step-daughter Sandra, her parents, two brothers and one sister.
