Darlyne E. (Schulze) Goodman

Funeral Services for Darlyne E. Goodman, 93, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk.  Reverends Dustin and Shelly Petz will officiate.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Home for Funerals.

She passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Homestead of Norfolk.

Darlyne Elaine was born May 2, 1924 to her parents Albert and Lillian (Scott) Schulze on the family farm southwest of Meadow Grove.  In 1942, she graduated Valedictorian at Meadow Grove High School.  Following graduation, Darlyne obtained her teacher’s certificate at Wayne State Teachers College.  For 2 and 1/2 years, she taught 5th and 6th grade at Meadow Grove.

On February 4, 1945, Darlyne married Paul Goodman at Meadow Grove United Methodist Church.  Early in 1946, the couple moved to Norfolk and began their family. 

Darlyne was very active in First United Methodist Church of Norfolk, a member since 1946, taught Sunday School in the 1950’s, and was secretary for the Rhoda Circle ladies group.  Darlyne and Paul were active square dancers for 60 years, began dancing with the 49er’s club in 1949, served as president of the Nebraska State Square Dance Association instrumental in bringing the State Convention to Norfolk, and enjoyed dancing in several of the U.S. states especially in Colorado at Estes Park.  She was an excellent baker who excelled in making cookies, cakes and sweet rolls.  Darlyne had a “green thumb” and enjoyed working in her garden raising vegetables, flowers and especially roses.  She carried on the love African Violets that she got from her mother.  Darlyne was an avid reader who liked to read about history, people and places both fiction and nonfiction.

She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Paul, and sons Scott and Greg.

Darlyne was preceded in death by her sister Bette Schulze.

Memorials requested the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk or the American Cancer Society.
