Della Jean (Reimers) Cook

Graveside services for Della Jean Cook, 90, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Deacon Jim Dolittle will officiate. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

She passed peacefully on January 6, 2018 at Heritage of Bel-Air in Norfolk.

Della Jean is the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Welch) Reimers, born November 11, 1927 in Laurel, Nebraska. She graduated from Laurel High School, moved to Norfolk and took a job as an “Operator” at Northwestern Bell. On her walks to work every day, she kept seeing a certain police officer always had several young women gathered around him during his patrol of downtown businesses. She ignored him until he noticed her. One thing led to another and on June, 1 1947 she married the love of her life, Don Cook, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk. He worked on the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and she did what she was so good at—being a homemaker and caregiver to her husband and children.

She is survived by her children, Mary Williams of Krum, Texas; Jerry Cook and wife Sharon of Indianapolis, Indiana; Barbara McGuire and husband Frank of Salisbury, NC; Donna Slobodny and husband Randy of Norfolk; 9 grandchildren: Zachary, Oliver, Rebecca, Sandra, Jenny, Adam, Heather, Travis, Mandy; and 16 great grandchildren, a brother Dick Reimers and his wife Darlene and a brother-in-law Kenny Cook and his wife Joy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Donald Cook; her parents; sister, Mary Jane; and brother, James Allen.
