George attended District 6 for first and second grade, he then went to Morning Star School and then to St. John Lutheran School, Green Garden, where he was confirmed and graduated in 1934.

George married Margaret Murriel Schmidt on February 4, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madison. They were married for 65 years and farmed eight miles west of Madison. George loved his land and livestock. His farming theory was to take care of them and they will take care of you.

He was the oldest member. He also served on the boards of the Battle Creek CO-OP and Farm Bureau and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

After retiring from farming in 1987, George and Margaret built a new home in Madison where they resided until they entered Countryside Home in July of 2014. George helped Darwin on the farm well into retirement.

George is survived by his son Steven (Sandra) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, son Darwin (Karen) Blank of Madison, daughter Susan (Rory) Swim of Springview, four grandchildren, Jessica (Paul) Simental of Omaha, Kadie (Chuck) Kruger of Crookston, Eric Blank and Karissa Blank of Madison, five great-grandchildren, Michael Simental of Omaha, Sadie, Cooper, Brynna and Easton Kruger of Crookston, a brother William (Anne) Blank of Madison and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret on December 24, 2016, a brother Elmer and a sister Ruby Vonderohe.
