Howard R. Winter

Funeral services for Howard R. Winter, 83, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Norfolk.  Burial will be in the parish Cemetery, Norfolk.  Visitation will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals,1203 W Norfolk Ave., Norfolk, Nebraska.

            Howard died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his home.

            Howard was born July 4, 1935, to Walter and Rosella (Wichman) Winter, in Norfolk. Howard attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Norfolk Senior High in 1953. Howard graduated from Norfolk Junior College in 1958. He served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1959 to 1962.

            Howard was a certified social worker and worked at the Norfolk Regional Center for 42 years, retiring 2000. Howard married Janice Keifer on May 28, 1977 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk.

            Howard loved Husker football, watching sports of any kind, nature and the outdoors, traveling, trains and animals, especially his cats.

            Howard is survived by his wife Jan, his children Dawn (Rick) Gilsdorf of Norfolk, Kim Meyer of Lincoln, Steve (Carol) Petersen of Tilden, Susan Mickelson of Neligh, Beverly Petersen of Los Angeles, CA, Beth (Jeff) Schieffer of Riverton, WY, and a sister Jeanette Rasmussen of Minneapolis, MN, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

            Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
