Janet L. (Sommerfeld) Griel

Funeral Services for Janet L. Griel, 74, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Home for Funerals Chapel on Georgia Avenue. Reverend Dave Goehmann will officiate.  Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Home for Funerals Chapel.

She passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Janet Lee was born March 18, 1944 in Norfolk, Nebraska to her parents Alfred and Grace (Brokaw) Sommerfeld.  She graduated from Norfolk Senior High School. 

On July 28, 1966, Janet married Joseph Griel at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk.  The couple was blessed with two children:  Lisa and Jason.

Janet worked a variety of jobs in Norfolk including as a day care worker at a local day care center.

She loved visiting with her friends.  Also, Janet liked her television shows especially the daytime soap operas.  She enjoyed spoiling her great grandchildren with gifts.

Janet is survived by her husband, Joe, daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Bryan Sterns of Norfolk, son Jason Griel of Norfolk, granddaughter Ashley Sterns, great grandchildren Adrian and Zoey, and sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Daryl Risor of Norfolk.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
