JoAnn Marie Fintowski was born August 27, 1951 to John and Elizabeth Fintowski in Renton, WA. She attended St. Anthony's Grade School in Renton, Immaculate Conception High School in Seattle, WA and graduated with her B.A. degree from Wayne State College, in Wayne, NE in 1995. She began her teaching career at Sacred Heart Elementary in Norfolk, NE in August of 1995 and became part of the family there until January of 2017, when she began to face health challenges. Prior to (and even during) her years of teaching, JoAnn waitressed at both Prenger's and The Granary in Norfolk.

She fought a valiant battle against the cancer and effects of it, with the love and encouragement of many friends and her family, for several years...and was able to enjoy quality time at home, time she cherished. JoAnn passed away on May 21, with friends at her side.

Survivors include sisters, Susan Greer of Seattle, WA, Ellen Davies of Lancashire, England, and Linda Colbert of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, John Davies, of Lancashire, England.

Through life, JoAnn was an avid reader, an outstanding English teacher, a woman of strong faith and opinion. She had a way with words and was fiercely independent. Her friendships were lasting and not taken lightly. Her time with family, though not always often enough, was precious to JoAnn. She was proud to say she'd had the joy of traveling in all 50 states and was happy to call Norfolk her home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Norfolk Catholic Schools or Norfolk Catholic Schools Foundation.
