Judy J. (Siedschlag) Hayes

Memorial Services for Judy J. Hayes, 81, Norfolk, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at Christ The Servant Lutheran Church, 1100 E. Benjamin Ave.  Reverend Steve Lund will officiate.  Visitation with family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.  Burial will be at a later date at Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

She passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

Judy was born June 24, 1936 to her parents Reuben and Gladys (Kirstine) Siedschlag in Omaha, Nebraska.  She graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1954.  In 1955, Judy married Donald Borden and from this union two children were born, Bill and Becki. The couple later divorced and Judy worked hard to support her children.

On April 6, 1968, a new family was formed when Judy married Gerald C. “Jerry” Hayes at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Norfolk. 

Judy and Jerry had the opportunity to travel many places.  She enjoyed wintering in Sun City, Arizona.  Judy was talented at scrapbooking, gardening, and making homemade greeting cards.  She had a great knowledge of Norfolk history and her oral history of Norfolk is archived at the Elkhorn Valley Museum.  Judy loved her church and her church family both in Sun City and Norfolk.  She enjoyed cooking and baking especially when shared with family and friends.  The family have fond memories of Judy’s love of family especially grandchildren and great grandchildren.       

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jerry, daughter Becki (Michael) Wulf of Norfolk, grandchildren Samuel (Jami) Wulf of Kearney, NE, Misty Luna of Katy, TX and Christy (Harry) Lampert of Norfolk, and great grandchildren Tyler, Carson, Zach, Madison, Claire and Charley Jane.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, son Bill Borden, and step-brother Roger Winter.
