Laurence F. "Larry" Steiger, Sr.

Funeral Services for Laurence F. “Larry” Steiger, Sr., 71, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2018 at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue.  Reverend Lee Weander will officiate.  Military honors will be conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard and American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644.  Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Home for Funerals Chapel. 

Larry passed away Monday, October 22, 2018 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.

Larry was born December 13, 1946 in Chicago, IL to his parents Frank and Lorraine (Marros) Steiger.  He graduated from West Leyden High School in Northlake, IL.  Following graduation, Larry was drafted in the U.S. Army and he served from August 11, 1967 until August 8, 1969.  He received a Purple Heart during his service in Vietnam.  After returning from his military service, Larry obtained an associate’s degree from Triton College in River Grove, IL.  Then, he went to work as a salesman for Nelsen Steel in Franklin Park, IL.  In 1980, Larry began a successful career as the Sales Manager for Nucor Cold Finish in Norfolk.  He retired in 2008.

Larry married Jean Doyle on November 15, 1969 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Melrose Park, IL.  The couple are blessed with three children, Lori, Larry, Jr., and Lance.  Larry enjoyed camping and taking special trips with his grandchildren.  Larry loved his Chicago teams especially the Bears, Blackhawks and White Sox.  In retirement, he wintered in Arizona and liked reading a great crime or mystery novel.

He is survived by his wife Jean, children Lori (Steve) Schrader of Norfolk, Larry, Jr. (Tara) of Lincoln, and Lance (JoAnn) of Randolph, grandchildren Cody, Joshua, Joelle, Caden, Malori, Jenessa, Jenna, Landon, and Kendyl, sister Sharon Schultz of Chicago, many nieces and nephews and faithful dog Rusty.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society or a local Veterans organization.
