Margie A (McGrath) Bessmer

Mass of Christian Burial for Margie A. Bessmer, 91, Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.  Reverend Scott Schilmoeller will be the celebrant.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. Rosary at Home for Funerals.

She passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk.

Margie Ann was born October 2, 1926 in Madison, Nebraska to her parents Lawrence and Sophia (Dieter) McGrath.  She was raised in Norfolk and attended Sacred Heart School. 

On August 2, 1948, Margie married Junior Bessmer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.  The couple raised their family in Norfolk.  In 1971, the couple moved to Pender, Nebraska.  They returned to Norfolk in retirement.

Margie was actively involved in the Altar Society at Sacred Heart Parish and St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking, fishing, and watching her grandchildren in all of their activities.

She is survived by her children Barb (Jerry) Anderson, Sharon (Larry) Schrage, John (Patty) Bessmer, Michael (Kelly) Bessmer, Tim (Kathy) Bessmer, Pam Glissman (friend Mark), Terry (Barb) Bessmer, and Chris (Jill) Bessmer, 21 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, siblings Mary Jessen, Donna (Don) Schwedhelm, Richard (Lorraine) McGrath, and Neal (Kay) McGrath, sister-in-law Sandy McGrath, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Tom, Larry, and Bob McGrath and Helen Ohlund, grandsons John Adam Bessmer and Tony Bessmer, and great grandson Jarred P. Anderson.

Memorials requested to the Alzheimer’s Association or AseraCare Hospice.
