Maxine V. (Peterson) Maxwell

Funeral Services for Maxine V. Maxwell, 92, Norfolk, will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Norfolk. Reverend Randall Coffin will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Home for Funerals.

She passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk after a courageous battle with cancer.

Maxine Virginia Peterson was born March 20, 1925 to her parents Richard and Irene (Nelson) Peterson in Lancaster County, Nebraska.  She graduated from Waverly High School.  Following high school, she worked for The First National Bank of Lincoln and State Farm Insurance.

On June 7, 1947, Maxine married James C. Maxwell in Ceresco, Nebraska.  The couple made their home in Lincoln. In 1956, they adopted their only daughter, Peggy.  In 1968 they moved to Neligh, NE. where Jim opened his own accounting office and practiced until his retirement in 1985.  In 1990 they moved to Norfolk, Ne. to be near their daughter and family.

Maxine was a member of First Christian Church in Norfolk. During her life, she belonged to many organizations including PEO and The Women’s Auxiliary. She was also an artist and attended oil painting classes and did many oil paintings. She also belonged to a Quilting Club and a China Painting Club.   She volunteered at several hospitals where she was a candy striper and worked in the gift shop. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She loved knitting and baking. There was always something freshly baked at her house.  She knitted dozens of afghans, many for family members. She was also involved in a program which provided hand knit caps and booties for premature babies. Most of all she was a mother to her daughter and a wonderful grandmother. She was always giving to others.

She is survived by her daughter Peggy (David) Robinson. seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and four sisters Ardis Grieser, Delores (Cliff) Erickson, Carol Roberts, and Donna Swanson.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and husband James.
