Richard N. Bahr

October 22, 1953 ~ May 27, 2018 (age 64) 64 Years Old

A Celebration of Life for Richard N. Bahr, 64, of Norfolk, will be at 10:30 a.m, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Memorial is under direction of Home for Funerals.

Richard passed away on the morning of Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk after a brave four year battle with advanced prostate cancer.

Richard was born in Norfolk to Lloyd and Angela Bahr of Stanton on October 22, 1953. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk, and confirmed at St. John's in Seward.  He graduated from Concordia High School in Seward in 1972 and studied short term at Concordia Teachers College.

On July 29, 1978, Richard married the love of his life, Janelle Trautwein of Norfolk. They raised two children together; Jessica and Adam. Richard lost his beloved Janelle just 10 months ago.

Richard was a son, brother, husband, grandfather, astronomer, and scientist. He was full of interesting facts. He had a witty, informed opinion about things, whether it was astrophysics, politics, or pop culture. He didn't always say much, but when he did it usually made you think, or laugh. Richard was a wonderful man who loved his family, the outdoors, history, and science. He would research all things he had of interest until he was satisfied. He had many hobbies like working on projects in the shop, morel mushroom hunting, catching crawdads in homemade traps with his grand kids, making an ant farm with his kids, reading on history or old National Lampoons magazines, doing crossword puzzles, and loved watching classic movies. He had amazing intelligence and an analytical mind. On any given night he would answer almost all of the questions on Jeopardy. If you asked him any question on any subject he at least knew something about it or would peak his interest enough where we would figure it out together. He enjoyed sitting on the deck he built listening to his records, and enjoying a glass of wine while grilling supper. Richard was a hard working, laid back man who always had something nice to say about everything. He had a kid-like affection for things he didn't know and chased his imagination and passion for anything that he did and followed it wholeheartedly. In 1981 Richard and his friends had a band to which they played a few venues, where he played the bass. He had an impeccable knowledge for music, citing little known bands and telling us how amazing the member was and how that person changed music for the better. He and his friends even made music videos before MTV was a thing, being the first of his friends owning a video camera. Richard was a mason by profession. He was masterful with stone and brick. You could drive anywhere with him and he'd be able to show you his accomplishments in Norfolk, Lincoln, Omaha, Sioux City, Wayne and other towns, whether it be a brick mailbox, fireplace, house addition, church, or a multimillion-dollar casino.

Richard will be dearly missed by son Adam Bahr of Omaha, and daughters Jessica (Josh) Muhs of Marquette, Crystal (Scott) and grandsons Brennan, Aidan, and William of Beaverton, OR. Four brothers Tom (Karen) Maas of Stanton, Curtis (Mary) Maas of Green Valley, AZ, Jerry (Elaine) Bahr of Battle Ground, WA,  and Steve Bahr of Norfolk.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife Janelle, parents Lloyd and Angela Bahr, and three sisters-in-law, Beth Bahr, Jeannie Maas, Sharlene Trautwein, and brother-in-law Randy Janke.
