Memorial services for Richard H. Berglund, 73, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 25, 2018, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Norfolk: Jacqueline Samway PMA, will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.  Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

            Richard died Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Countryside Home, Madison.

            Richard was born September 6, 1944 to Melvin and Electa (Cook) Berglund, at Plainview, NE. He grew up in Creighton and graduated form Creighton High School in 1962. On January 4, 1963 Richard entered the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on December 7, 1966. On July 28, 1968, Richard married Jo Ann Breece at Creighton.

            Richard and Jo Ann lived in Creighton where Richard worked for West Lumber Company and then North Central Public Power District from March 1969 to December 1975. Richard went to work for NPPD in January of 1976. They moved to Norfolk in May of 1995. Richard retired from NPPD in September of 2004.

            While in Creighton Richard was on the Fire Department for 25 years, served on the city council for 6 years and was a member of the American Legion, and spent 2 years as the Commander and was Adjutant for 5 years. Richard continued his Legion membership in Norfolk, where he served 2 terms as Commander and was a member of the Color Guard.

            Richard enjoyed Husker sports, country music, colleting toy tractors, Husker memorabilia and playing Sheepshead, but most of all he loved time with his family and grandchildren.

            Richard is survived by his wife Jo Ann, their 2 children Jill and Joe Anderson of Lincoln, Jason Berglund of Norfolk, 2 grandchildren Riley J. and Colin R. Anderson, a sister Marilyn Berglund, brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

            He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Stan and Bill Berglund and a sister Sharon Schuettler.
