He passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Richard Dennis was born in Sioux City, Iowa to his parents Ronald “RB” and Vada (Johnson) Erb on April 25, 1940.  The family moved to Norfolk shortly after his birth when RB started work as an engineer for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Denny graduated from Norfolk Senior High and resided in Norfolk for many years until moving to Creighton, NE, where he resided at the time of his death.

Denny and Rozella Haase married in 1962 and they had three children together, Kelly, Patrick, and Steven.

Denny and his longtime life partner, Nancy Mackey, went on to have one child together, Sarah Jo Erb, in 1996, in addition to Nancy’s son, Evan Mackey.

Denny was accomplished in many areas including floor covering, carpentry, car repair and machinist, and retired at age 55 from 3M Manufacturing. His greatest pastimes in life were racing cars, racing four wheelers with his son Steven, and in later years, following his daughter Sarah in her athletic and academic endeavors. Most recently he had returned to his great enjoyment of riding motorcycles and he owned a Honda Goldwing trike.

Denny is survived by his partner Nancy; his children, Kelly (Jim) Ruge of Norfolk, Patrick (Gwyn) Erb of Cedar Rapids, IA; Evan (Alexandra) Mackey of Yankton, SD; and Sarah Jo Erb of Lincoln, NE; his sister, Phyllis Mittelstaedt of Lakewood, CO; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Steven, in 1989 with whom he is now reunited.
