Ruth R. (Rodekohr) Dickmeyer

August 10, 1923 ~ April 23, 2019 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Funeral services for Ruth R. Dickmeyer, 95, Battle Creek, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reverend B.J. Fouts will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00- 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Steffen Mortuary in Battle Creek is in charge of arrangements.

She passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek.

Ruth was born August 10, 1923 on the family farm near Meadow Grove to Louis H. and Augusta (Preusker) Rodekohr.  She was baptized August 27, 1923 in St. John Lutheran Church, Battle Creek, and attended St. John Lutheran School and was confirmed May 16, 1937 at St. John, Battle Creek.  She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1941 and following graduation taught 4 years at rural schools, Dist. #23 and Dist. #31.  

On November 18, 1945, she was united in marriage to Herbert Dickmeyer at St. John Lutheran Church.  They farmed south and west of Battle Creek before retiring to live in Battle Creek in 1978.

She was employed at the Battle Creek Farmers Coop for nearly 25 years as a bookkeeper and Office Supervisor, retiring in 1988.

She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church serving as Financial Secretary, member of the Counting Board, member of the Choir, and the Dorcas Society and LWML.  She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a Care Giver of the Community Pride Care Center, Lions Club, volunteer at Lutheran Hospital Guild.  She loved playing cards belonging to different card groups and generally anything she could be around people.

She dearly loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed any activities they were involved. 

Survivors include son, Jim (Marlys), Palm City, FL; daughter, Jan Smith (Randy), Lincoln, NE; daughter-in-law Deborah Dickmeyer, Roseville, CA; Six Grandchildren, Justin (Rachel), Jason (Melissa), Scott (Altair) and Holly Dickmeyer, Ryan Smith (Jenn), Kari Duerfeldt (Josh), ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herb in 1996, son Bob in 2018, and her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Thelma Rodekohr; her sister and brother-in-law Almira and Arland Freudenburg; brother-in-law and sister-in laws Roman and Leona Smith, Herb and Elta Bierman, Martin and Emma Dickmeyer, Carl and Ann Praeuner.
