Thomas L. Frey

Memorial Mass of Thomas “Tom” Lawrence Frey, 83, Norfolk, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey.  Reverend Patrick McLaughlin will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Humphrey.  Military honors conducted by Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard with the Humphrey American Legion Post 80 Foltz Zuerlein and VFW Post 7725. Visitation with family will be Tuesday one hour prior to service at the church.  Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.

He passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Tom was born May 18, 1935 to his parents Tony and Esther (Haferland) Frey in Humphrey, Nebraska.  He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1953.  The following year, Tom studied plumbing and graduated from Milford Trade School in Milford, NE.  After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1954 until 1956.  On April 23, 1960, Tom married Jamie Meline at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Julesburg, CO.  From this union, the couple was blessed with four children: Craig, Todd, Melanie, and Tony.  In 1977, Tom began Frey Mechanical Contractors serving the states of Texas and Louisiana.  He retired for a short period before returning to work at the Hanford Nuclear Plant in Richland, WA in 1995.  In 2002, he retired and moved to Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jamie, children Craig of O’Neill, Todd of Santiago, Chile, Melanie of San Antonio, TX, and Tony (Anita) of Austin, TX, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister Noreen Zingg.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation in Tom’s name to the Faith Regional Health Services Foundation – Intermediate ICU or a charity of your choice.
