Funeral services for Verne E. Fuhrman, 85, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk, Nebraska.
Verne died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Stanton Health Center.
Verne was born June 8, 1932, to Edward and Elizabeth (Gustman) Fuhrman, the youngest of six, on the Fuhrman family farm, in Stanton County. He was baptized at Peace Reform Church, he attended school at District 11, in Stanton County and graduated from Norfolk High School in 1950.
Verne enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 28, 1952, he did his basic training at Shepard Field, TX. He was then stationed in Brooklyn, NY where he received training at the Institute of Applied Arts and Science as a dental laboratory technician. He was then assigned to Tinker AFB, OK, mobile dental unit. It was during this time that Verne married Lyla Marotz on August 2, 1953, in Hoskins, NE. He was then transferred to ENT AFB in Colorado Springs, CO. He served as a dental tech there until his honorable discharge on January 27, 1956, as a staff sergeant.
They returned to Norfolk and Verne worked at Wells Dental Lab, where he became part owner. In 1988 Verne along with his son Shawn opened Fuhrman Dental Lab. Verne continued to work until age 80.
Verne was a head usher for many years, at Grace Lutheran Church, he was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, golfing, shooting blue rock, playing cards and Nebraska football games. He and Lyla traveled to all 50 states.
Verne was a member of the American Legion and the Kiwanis Club where he was past president.
Verne is survived by his wife Lyla and their 4 children, Stephanie and George Krijan of Omaha, Shawn and Leigh Fuhrman of Norfolk, Melanie and Jeff Frohberg of Lincoln, Tiffanie and Jeff Pusateri of Omaha, 5 grandsons, Shanan Fuhrman, Jason Fuhrman, Connor Frohberg, Alexander Pusateri, Nicholas Pusateri, 5 granddaughters, Ashley Koster, Aleisha Wissink, Brittany Rubeck, Cassandra Bertwell and Melissa Law, and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
