Beverly Wilcox Obituary

Funeral services for Beverly J. Wilcox, age 97, of Battle Creek, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk.  Reverend Brian Johnson will offiiciate.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Battle Creek.  Home for Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.

She passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Beverly Jean (Johnson) Wilcox was born October 5, 1925 at a rural Rock County home near Newport, NE.  She was the oldest daughter of Frank B. Johnson and Sarah C. “Carrie” (Bachman) Johnson. She was joined by a sister, Shirley, and brother, Paul.

Beverly graduated from Stuart High School and received a teaching degree from Chadron State College.  She taught for one year at the same rural school she had attended, and where her parents both served on the school board.  Beverly married Raymond “Bud” Wilcox at Bassett, NE on August 26, 1950.  To this marriage, five children were born:  twins – Carol and Carl, Gary, David, and Millissa.

Beverly taught Carol and Carl in kindergarten, when they lived in White River, SD and were many miles from the nearest school.  She was very active in her children’s schooling and extra-curricular activities, and later continued that with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family moved to Battle Creek in 1969 where Beverly was an active member of the United Methodist Church and its womens groups until it closed.  She was a long-time member of the Battle Creek Lioness Club, a member of TOPS, a 4-H leader for the Brookside Beavers, and a volunteer for the Battle Creek Library and Red Cross Blood Mobile. 

Beverly is survived by her children – Carol (Eugene) Sateren of Pilger, NE; Carl (Laurie) Wilcox of Haxtun, CO; Gary (Karen) Wilcox of Tilden, NE; David Wilcox of Battle Creek, NE; and Millissa Wilcox of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren – Eugene (Angie) Sateren, Harlan (Nicole) Sateren, Andrea Wilcox, and Matthew (Aslyn) Wilcox; four great-granchildren - Jordyn Sateren, Aidan Sateren, Camden Sateren, and Adelynn Sateren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law – Cora Dickau and Twila Whirley.

Beverly is preceded in death by her husband - Bud; parents - Frank and Carrie; sister -Shirley; and brother - Paul.

All of her children and their spouses and her grandchildren were be able to be with her in her last days.  Beverly entered into rest on November 5, 2022.
