Carol Ann passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, in Peoria, Arizona at the West Valley Group Care Home in Peoria after a brief illness.

She was born August 9, 1946, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Richard and Alberta (Ganser) Walkenhorst of Madison. Carol graduated from Madison Senior High School in 1964 and from Norfolk Junior College, with a business associate degree, in 1966.

In high school, Carol was a baton twirler, and after high school gave baton lessons. She worked for Evert Simpson Architectural Firm in Norfolk, after graduating from Norfolk Junior College.

On May 22, 1971, Carol married Glenn M. Bauer, Norfolk, at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Madison.

They lived in Norfolk, where she continued to work until her husband was transferred with the telephone company to Fremont. While living in Fremont, she worked part-time as a bank teller, until her husband was transferred to Omaha, where she retired from Nebraska Public School system after working for approximately eight years at Westside High School as an educational assistant.

Carol and her husband retired in Omaha and enjoyed taking ocean cruise/tours and traveling to Estes Park, Colorado nearly annually, along with becoming snowbirds traveling to their condo in Sun City, AZ every winter.

Carol enjoyed making craft items with her mother, Alberta, during the early years of her marriage. She loved all dogs, and had two black French Poodles during her marriage, Brandy and Mandy. Carol was a past member of the Assistance League of Omaha, a member of PEO, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She truly enjoyed life and meeting and talking with people. Carol never had an unkind word for anyone and was always more interested in you and your family than talking about her. Her friends and acquaintances described her as one of the sweetest people they had ever known and enjoyed her sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; aunts, uncles, and cousins; along with her treasured pets, Brandy and Mandy.

Carol is survived by her husband and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association, Assistance League of Omaha, St. Jude, Open Door Mission in Omaha, or a charity of your choice.
