Christina passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus, Nebraska.
Christina Marie Blomenberg was born on March 1, 1988, and adopted by Dr. Daniel and Deanna Blomenberg on March 4, 1988. She graduated Christ Lutheran School for elementary in 2002 and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 2006.
Christina is survived by her children, Christopher Blomenberg-Sherer, Liam Blomenberg-Sherer, Connor Bader, and Levi Bader; her parents, Dr. Daniel and Deanna Blomenberg; her eight siblings and their spouses, Nathan Blomenberg, Heather and Adam Warren, Matthew and Alicia Blomenberg, Faith and Kevin Knapp, Angelica and Edwin Izumigawa, Allegra Blomenberg and Langston Jones, Luke and Nicholle Blomenberg, and Hope Blomenberg; her nieces and nephews; her grandmother, Donna McClain; and Christina’s birth family, mother, Lori Fears, grandmother, Pat Dodson, and aunt, Lisa Lewis.
There are a few cherished memories the family would like friends to remember Christina by. In 2019, Deanna posted Christina’s birth story online, hoping to connect her with her birth family. The very next day, a connection was found—Christina’s birth mom had posted on the same website when Christina turned 18, eleven years earlier. Shortly thereafter, Christina met her birth family, which brought immense joy and additional loved ones into her life.
Secondly, the last night the family was with Christina, she was happily spending hours in the pool with her boys, laughing and smiling, a scene reminiscent of her childhood when she swam like a fish and was affectionately nicknamed "Shamu." Lastly, at Thanksgiving in 2021, the family shared what they were thankful for. Christina expressed gratitude for adoption and the way it brought her into the family. Through happy tears, her family reciprocated, thankful for the vibrant, confident spirit that Christina brought into their lives, adding another colorful thread to their family quilt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of donating to “Support for Christopher and Liam: Honoring Christina” on GoFundMe, a fund with the purpose of supporting the boys in the following months.
The family also requests a dress code that would honor Christina’s personality with pink, turquoise, peacock, black, lace, rhinestones, and glitter.
Christina’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Columbus Community Hospital for their compassionate care.
Christina’s fierce personality and willingness to pave her own path will continue to shape and inspire the lives of those who surrounded her and live on forever in their memories.
