Christine died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk.
Christine Marie Nielsen was born February 27, 1947, to Kathryn (Colton) and Arthur Nielsen at Wanakena, NY. At a young age her family moved to Goodyear Lake, NY where she enjoyed swimming and boating along with fishing. These activities she enjoyed the rest of her life.
Christine went to a small rural school in Portlandville, NY. She then continued her schooling at Milford Central school. Chris became interested in nursing and pursued this interest at Watertown, NY, where she became a nurse. Chris worked as a nurse in New York state. After a time, she moved to Florida where she worked in various areas involving medicine.
Chris retired and lived in Florida for several years until she decided to move to Nebraska in January of 2019. She lived at Madison House Assisted Living until it was necessary for her to move following heart surgery. She was welcomed at Skyview Villa Assisted Living where she resided for nearly five years. Because of health concerns it became necessary for Chris to move downstairs to St. Joe's several weeks prior to her passing.
Christine truly liked people and would strive to visit with anyone. She made an effort to meet and get to know people that she did not know. After her death, several of the staff at St. Joe's remarked how friendly she had been. Chris would introduce family to those at the home after forgetting that she had introduced them at an earlier time.
Christine also liked animals. Of course, pets such as her cat, Sadie; Judy's cat, Midnight and her dogs, Sophie and Stella; and Becki's dog, Minnie, as well as other animals in zoos or elsewhere. She also enjoyed plants and gardening. Even after moving to Skyview Villa, she planted tomatoes, other vegetables, and flowers on her back door patio.
Survivors include her sisters, Marion (Dennis) Hoobler and Judy Nielsen of Norfolk, NE; niece, Rebecca Hoobler of Grand Island, NE; and nephew, Jeffrey and wife, Athena Hoobler and their family Lucas, Alexandra, and Marianna of Highland Park, IL.
