Dana Lew Novotny was born on December 28, 1958, in Norfolk, to Arlie and LaDonna (Wieting) Novotny. He had three brothers, Brad, Fredd, and Bill. He graduated from Pender High School in 1977. After graduation, Dana entered the workforce focusing on construction.
A couple of years after entering the workforce, he was blessed with one son, Dustin, born in September of 1979. Dana continued working in construction for many years before transitioning to work at Mateo Sand and Gravel in Norfolk, where he worked until his retirement in July of 2025. He was enjoying retirement while also working part-time at the Oak Park Apartments.
Dana had some hobbies and interests. For a long time, he enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed hunting deer a few times or going golfing with his son and grandson but was most often found fishing. Fishing and golfing were his main hobbies, but he did enjoy watching a Husker football game with his son’s family, watching a Cubs baseball game, or rooting for his favorite NFL team, the Green Bay Packers. Dana loved being able to attend his grandkids’ events and cheer them on from the bleachers. He was a great dad and an even better grandpa. He will be missed by many close family members and friends.
Survivors include his son, Dustin (Elizabeth) Novotny of Cedar Bluffs, NE; two grandchildren, Dawson and Wrigley Novotny; three brothers, Fredd (Mary) Novotny of Anchorage, Alaska, Brad (Jennifer) Novotny of Lincoln, NE, and Bill Novotny of Tilden, NE; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and LaDonna Novotny; nephew, Chadwick Novotny; uncles-in-law, Orlin Stolle and Edwin “Ed” Corbett.
