Darlene Freudenburg Obituary

Funeral services for Darlene R. Freudenburg, age 96, of Madison, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at St. John Lutheran – Green Garden Church, rural Madison. Reverend Barry Williams will officiate, with burial in St. John – Green Garden Cemetery, rural Madison.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church.

Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene died Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Arbor Care Countryside in Madison.

Darlene Rosella (Preuss) Freudenburg was born December 16, 1927, west of Madison to William C. and Olga (Meisinger) Preuss. She was baptized January 15, 1928, and confirmed April 6, 1941, at St. John Lutheran Church (Green Garden) in Madison, Nebraska. She attended District 42, Madison County school house through fifth grade and finished the remainder of her schooling at St. John Lutheran School. Darlene graduated from Madison High School in 1945.

On December 27, 1952, she married Earl Freudenburg, also of Madison. They resided west of Madison on the family farm. Darlene worked numerous jobs including Madison Building and Loan as well as Moyer & Moyer.

She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church and was an active member of Ladies Aid, holding several offices over the years. Darlene volunteered at Countryside nursing home and the Lutheran hospital. She was an avid reader and gardener. She also enjoyed sewing and making quilts for Orphan Grain Train and all of her grandchildren. Her grandchildren would say she is famous for baking, especially her poppy seed bread.

She is survived by daughters, Jane (Jack) Richardson of Sanger, TX and Susan (Mark) Miller of Madison, NE; daughter-in-law, Janina Nikodem of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Angie (Luke) Kory and children Olivia and Luke of Phoenix, AZ; Adam (Mary) Freudenburg and son, Jaxon of Peoria, AZ; Kenneth (Jill) Richardson and daughter, Elizabeth of Sanger, TX; Kate Richardson of Sanger, TX; Audrey (Lucas) Ahrens and children Hayden and Hudson of Seward, NE; Erin (Anthony) Vogel and children Brooklyn and Landon of Stanton, NE; Jenna Miller of Lincoln, NE; brother, William (Judy) Preuss of Seward, NE; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl (1991); son, Jon Freudenburg (2022); sister, Norma Wells and husband, Frank; and sister Doris Gellerman and husbands, Len Jostes and Ramon Gellerman.
