Darlene Joan Mandl was born August 2, 1931, in West Point, NE. She was the daughter of Alfred F. Wikert and Johanna (Novak) Muhs. Darlene attended Stanton County rural school near Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School. In February of 1952, Darlene married William R. Hill. This union resulted in five children: Beverly, Vincent, Gregory, Timothy, and Curtis. Darlene spent her younger days caring for her five children and tending to the farm.
Darlene married Thomas Mandl April 19, 1977, and they moved to Minneapolis, MN. She worked at Cargill’s corporate office as an Administrative Assistant until retiring in 1992. She and Tom then began their big adventure! They purchased a beautiful motorhome and traveled for several years, visiting Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin until she and Tom made their permanent home back in Stanton, NE.
A loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend, Darlene was a stranger to no one and an advocate for everyone. She enjoyed staying busy and approached each day with a purpose. Darlene LOVED her family, friends, and God above all else. She had a passion for her flowers and garden, game nights with friends, crocheting, polka music, reading, and spending time in God's word.
Darlene is survived by four children, Odie Hill (Cathy), Tim Hill, Curt Hill (Mary Jane), and Nancy Mandl; siblings, Doris Wilson (Merlyn), Gail Muhs (Kay), Betty Potasnek (Jerry), Dennis Muhs, Dallas Muhs (Vicki), JoEllen Gillman (Tom), and Mary Maas (Curt); eleven grandchildren, Trevor Hill, Beccy McNutt (Tom), Craig Nau, Scott Davidson, Kyra Hill, Kate Hill, Colleen Hill, Karli Carlson (Nick), Jessica DiRienzo, Christopher Duffield, and Justin Mandl; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Dale Blattert; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
