Darlene died Monday, January 27, 2025, at The Meadows in Norfolk.
Darlene Elizabeth Preister, daughter of Henry and Cecilia (Heimerl) Wemhoff, was born April 20, 1939, in Humphrey, Nebraska, one of nine children. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1957. In October of 1959, Darlene married Terry Preister. The couple was blessed with five children: Dan, Scott, Kim, Suzanne, and Gary.
Darlene was a hard worker. With her gardens covering up to an acre of land, her pantry was often overflowing with the bountiful harvest that she and her children canned. After moving to Norfolk, she worked at Heritage Homes and ran an in-home daycare.
Artistic, and with an eye for antiques, Darlene had a special passion for garage sales, where she was always able to sniff out the best treasures. She loved creating Christmas magic for her family and would make birthdays extra special for everyone with her elaborate cake designs.
Darlene is survived by children, Dan (Lori) Preister, Suzie Leffers, and Gary (Mary Jo) Preister; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Ralph, Bob, and Norm Wemhoff; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott Preister; daughter, Kim Machacek; infant brother, Clement; sisters, Deloris, Estelle, Laverna, and Laura; and special friend, Don Luedert.
Sympathy cards may be mailed to Suzie Leffers, 805 N. 10th Street Norfolk, NE 68701.
