Daryl completed his life's journey on July 2, 2024, Arbor Care Center - Countryside in Madison.

Daryl D. Hubbard entered this world on September 1, 1943, the fifth child of Daryl B. Hubbard and Dorothy (Fransen) Hubbard. He was born in Wayne, Nebraska. Daryl grew up attending rural schools in Cedar County, later attending high school at Laurel and Hahn High School in Wayne. He pursued higher education at Northeast Community College and completed his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State College.

His professional career flourished as an electrical technician with Dale Electronics and Vishay, where he earned immense respect for his expertise. He was often selected to train on the latest technologies overseas, helping keep Dales/Vishay at the forefront of the industry.

On December 18, 1965, Daryl married the love of his life, Jan Srb, at the Presbyterian Church in Madison. The couple made their home in Norfolk before settling in Madison, where Jan worked as a school librarian and teacher in the Madison Public Schools. Daryl was a devoted husband, particularly during Jan’s battle with multiple sclerosis. He served as his wife's primary caregiver until she required more specialized care at a nursing facility. He continued to visit her almost daily, offering unwavering support and companionship until her passing in 2012. Daryl was also instrumental in caring for his son following a life altering accident that left Darin with some physical and cognitive challenges.

Daryl was a man of many passions. He enjoyed tending to his expansive garden and apple trees, always eager to share the fruits of his labor. Fishing was a favorite pastime, and he could often be found at Ta-Ha-Zouka or Two Rivers, ready to cast his line at a moment’s notice. Known for his “fix-it” mentality, Daryl never discarded anything he believed could be repaired or repurposed.

His love for music, Western television shows, and, above all, his grandchildren, brought him immense joy. He was a proud grandfather whose face lit up at the mention of school pick-ups, band concerts, dance competitions, and other school activities. A beloved companion and mentor, Daryl shared his love of the outdoors and adventure with his children, then later his grandchildren. His humor was as constant as his kindness, always armed with a new joke and a warm smile, embodying the true essence of a “nice guy” who would help anyone in need.

Daryl was preceded in death by his wife, Jan; parents, Daryl and Dorothy Hubbard; mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Adella Srb; brothers, Lyle and Ronald Carl Hubbard; sister-in-law, Gloria Hubbard; and brother-in-law, James Rasmussen.

Daryl is survived by two children, son Darin Hubbard and daughter Jessica Hubbard (Julian Thomas); five grandchildren, Treyvaun, Treslyn, Tariq, Josslyn and Quinnlyn; sisters, Marie Hubbard and Lois Rasmussen; sister-in-law, Linda Hubbard; and many nieces and nephews.

Daryl's life was a testament to love, devotion, and the power of humor and kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him.
