David Lordell Thomas, age 87 of Stanton, died Saturday August 1, 2015 at Stanton Health Center in Stanton. He was born January 23, 1928 in Newman Grove, Nebraska the son of Herman and Elsie (King) Thomas. He attended Madison County School District 58 through 4th grade, attended Newman Grove Public Schools, graduated from Newman Grove High School in 1945. Dave entered the United States Army on May 6, 1946 stationed in Japan during post World War II and was honorably discharged on May 31, 1947.
On August 7, 1956 Dave was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Erychleb at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton. Dave and Betty farmed by Newman Grove until moving to rural Stanton County in 1970. He farmed on Betty's family homestead until they retired and moved to Norfolk in 2002 he returned to Stanton 2012 when he entered Stanton Health Center. Dave enjoyed woodworking and reading Western novels and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband to wife Betty. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Stanton.
Surviving him are his two children, Mardell and husband David Ferguson of Norfolk, Michael "Mike" Thomas and special friend Karen Doffin of Stanton; four grandchildren, Jesse Ferguson and wife Xanat Naranjo-Ferguson of Norfolk, Jennifer Loeffler and husband Matthew Loeffler of Norfolk, Jacqueline Ferguson and special friend Levi Wehrer of Norfolk, Jonathan Thomas and wife Sarah and stepdaughter Kathryn of Superior, NE, and great-grandchildren Isaac, Noah and Abram Ferguson-Naranjo and Eva Loeffler, all of Norfolk; brother-in-law Joseph "Joe" Erychleb of Sioux City, IA; brother-in-law Vernon Svitak, Sr. of Mesa, AZ and nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents, Herman and Elsie Thomas; brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Eleanor Thomas of Newman Grove, NE; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Art Dixon of Terre Haute, IN; sister-in-law Linda Erychleb of Sioux City, IA and niece Shari Erychleb of Sioux City, IA, and sister-in-law Adelaide "Addy" Svitak of Mesa, AZ.
