David Randall joined the Van Vliet family at the tender age of 18 months. He was loved, cherished and enjoyed by all. David’s greatest joys, however, came from time spent on Grandma and Grandpa Van Vliet’s farm. He leaped at any and every opportunity to spend with the horses, including Lady, Tony the Pony, his own pony, Black Beauty and his colt, Cheyenne.
Despite his tough and defensive exterior, David endeared himself to many through his drive for independence, paired with a tenderness for the broken. Much of David’s adult life was spent in pursuit of his freedom. There are countless stories out there, some more exciting than others, but like Frank Sinatra and John Wayne, he “did it his way”.
Eventually, about 5 years ago and ready for a new start, David moved to Nebraska. These 5 years have not been easy. Besides fighting his own personal demons, his health has suffered greatly. But he kept plodding along, wanting to fully experience every moment he could. That pursuit ended on Saturday evening, October 22, 2022, when David quietly slipped off into eternity in his sleep.
David believed what he had been taught from the Bible. He knew that Jesus Christ was born as a baby, lived his earthly life as fully human and fully God. Then Jesus offered Himself as a sacrifice for our sins – so that all who believed on Him would be called the children of God.
A memorial service will be held at LifePoint Church, Norfolk, NE at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3rd, 2022.
