Dennis L. Aldag

Funeral services for Dennis L. Aldag, age 82, of Battle Creek, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reverend Joseph Leech will officiate.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and American Legion Post 75. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the church.

Dennis passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Dennis Aldag was born July 20, 1942, in Norfolk to Elmer and Doris Aldag. Dennis grew up in Battle Creek, attending St. John Lutheran School and Battle Creek High School, graduating in 1960. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Carstens. They moved to San Diego where he joined the Navy and went through boot camp. He then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida for helicopter mechanic training. While in Jacksonville Dennis earned the very first “Sailor of the Quarter” award. After training, he returned to San Diego as a helicopter mechanic for the remainder of his three-year active-duty career and remained on Reserve Duty from 1963-1966. One of his favorite memories was working on JFK’s helicopter.

Dennis and Janice started their family, with daughter Vickie born in 1960 and son Terry in 1962. They returned to Battle Creek in 1963, when Dennis started work at the Battle Creek Co-op, working there until 1966 when they purchased the Carstens family farm and moved to the farm south of Battle Creek. In 1974, they moved to the Aldag homestead just a mile north. Dennis continued his farming operations until eventually renting the ground out. He then worked for Coldwell Banker Dover Realtors as a realtor and property manager. After that he worked part time at Menards. In 2005 they built a new home and moved into Battle Creek, fully retiring in 2007.

He and Janice were blessed to enjoy many vacations and were able to visit Europe and all 50 states, some on their motorcycle. During retirement, Dennis enjoyed a lot of golfing; especially his weekly trips to various courses around Nebraska with friends Del Fuelberth, Tom Osborn, and Jerry Preusker. Another love of his was his flowers and landscaping.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Aldag; mother, Doris (Aldag) Smith; stepfather, Arden Smith; and nephew, Greg Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of Battle Creek; daughter, Vickie (John) Hrabanek of Battle Creek; son, Terry (Patricia) Aldag of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, Megan (Justin) Eckert, Jay Aldag, Travis (Morgan) Aldag, Nicole (Scott) Kuk, Kendra (Robbie) Nickeson, Alex Aldag, and Skye (Nic) Schott; brother, Scott (Joanie) Smith and their children Adam (Allysia) Smith and family and Cara Myung; 16 great-grandchildren, Abby and Olivia Eckert, Brenna and Cooper Kuk, Taylynn, Paisley and Blakely Aldag, Peyton, Kendall and Deklyn Aldag, Mia Nickeson, Jamie and Dana Aldag; and Suttynn, Sydnee and Sylvia Schott.
