Public visitation for Duane “Dewey” Holan, age 78, of Battle Creek, Nebraska will be Friday, June 26, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Duane died Monday, June 22, 2026, at his residence.

Duane Q. Holan, son of Lawerence and Evalyn (Janik) Holan, was born November 6, 1947, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He attended Kimball High School in Kimball, South Dakota. Duane enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1970, then spent two years in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, before being stationed Germany in 1970.

Duane married Beverley Anderson and they were married for 39 years. Together, they raised four daughters. Beverley passed away in September of 2014. In August of 2015, Duane married Barb (Hupp) Descombaz and gained three more daughters.

Duane lived in Sioux City, Iowa for several years, working at Prince Manufacturing Corporation. This is where he earned the nickname, “Dewey.” Duane later settled in Battle Creek, Nebraska where he was employed with Nucor Steel in Norfolk. He retired from Nucor after 30 years.

He loved going on cattle drives, cruising around in his Can-Am, watching Husker football, collecting Budweiser mugs, playing cards, and he loved his Kubota tractor. Duane could often be found hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and playing in pool tournaments with his buddy, Fink. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Duane passed away peacefully in Barb’s arms at his home in Battle Creek on June 22, 2026.

He is survived by his wife, Barb Holan of Battle Creek; sister, Judene Holan of Pierre, South Dakota; brother, Dean (Joey) Holan of Norfolk; children, Regina (Bryon) Uecker of Battle Creek, Tiffaney (Terry) Kahland of Norfolk, Tammi (Chad) Reeves of Battle Creek, and Renae Madison of Texas; stepchildren, Kim (Ron) Bilstein of Battle Creek, Michele (Bob) Guthrie of Norfolk, and Joey Porter of Norfolk; 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evalyn; wife, Beverley; brothers, LaVaun and Dennis; and sisters, Nelda Jean and Lynette.

A celebration of life will be on August 22, 2026, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Fight’n River in Battle Creek.
