Elizabeth Cheyney Obituary
E. Carla Cheyney, age 71 of Stanton, died Tuesday March 5, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE. She was born November 11, 1947 at Tilden, Nebraska the daughter of Oscar and Maria (Sandri) Thomas. She attended Center Public schools and graduated Creighton High School in 1966. Carla later attended Wayne State College in Wayne and Northeast Community College in Norfolk.
On September 2, 1972 Carla married Merle LeRoy Cheyney at the Congregational Church in Center. The couple farmed north of Brunswick for a year. Merle and Carla moved near Verdigre where Merle managed a hog and feeder pig operation for a few years, Carla as a housewife. The couple purchased a farm west of Creighton until they moved to Stanton in 1989.
Carla worked as researcher for Credit Bureau of Norfolk for about 6 years and also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteer for children. She enjoyed playing the piano and loved music. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness of Norfolk and was active until health kept her at home.
Surviving her is husband Merle Cheyney of Stanton; her 3 children Gregory Cheyney of Stanton; Jolene Cheyney of Norfolk; Lisa Cheyney of Fremont; her 3 siblings Sharon and David Skipton of Montana; Tom W. Thomas of Salem, OR; Cindy Thomas of Seattle, WA.
Carla is preceded in death by her parents.
