Betty Carney Budler passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at her home in Sun City, Arizona.

Elizabeth “Betty” Rose (Finn) Carney Budler was born October 7, 1930, to Matthew and Mary (Ahern) Finn in Carroll. Betty graduated from Norfolk Catholic High in 1947, where she met her future husband, the late Joe Carney. The couple later welcomed eight children. When the youngest child went to school, Betty obtained her real estate sales and broker’s licenses. She worked as a realtor for over 40 years, including Century 21 Fisher Realty.

After Joe’s Death, Betty obtained her AA degree from Northeast Technical Community College in 1984. She moved to Sun City, Arizona and worked at Ken Meade Realty where she met and married the late Chuck Budler, adding three more adult children in creating the blended family. While Betty loved Arizona and the sunshine, she wrote in her life story that her “happiest days were when all eight children were growing up right there on South 4th Street.” She gave back to the community by teaching swim lessons, coordinating the “Ready Area” for Aquajets Swim Team meets, and serving as the President of the Norfolk Board of Realtors. In Arizona, she sewed dresses for the nearby school children and was the President of the St. Elizabeth Seton Society.

Betty is survived by her children, Dan (Donna) Carney, Aurora, CO, Tom Carney, Darien, WI, Matt Carney, Sun City, AZ, Kathleen Carney (Eddie Fleer), Nixa, MO, Patty Carney, Lodi, CA, Candy (Craig) Unger, Oakland, MD, Kelly Carney, Sun City, AZ, and Lou (Peg) Budler, Villa Hills, KY; brother-in-law, Tex (Joy) Carney, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Carney in 1984; second husband, Chuck Budler in 2009; son, Jim (Sandi) Carney in 2001; son, Mike (Jacque) Budler in 2008; daughter, Barb (Ken) Budler Hummel in 2011; grandson, Brad Valdez in 2008; and six siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Joe and Betty Carney Memorial Endowed Scholarship, Wayne State College Foundation, 1111 Main St, Wayne, NE 68787 (or do a kind deed for someone, as we know that would make her happy).
