Funeral services for Ernest R. Iron Thunder, age 83, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Home for Funerals Chapel in Norfolk. John Petersen wil officiate, with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Home for Funerals in Norfolk is in charge of arrangements.
Ernest died Friday, December 29, 2023, at Colonial Manor in Randolph, Nebraska.
Ernest Richard was born June 25, 1940, in Winnebago, Nebraska to Ernest S. and Amelia “Babe” (Knudsen) Iron Thunder.
On July 1, 1967, Ernest married Margaret K. Clausen at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Norfolk. The couple was blessed with four children, Curtis, Kristin, Travis, and James.
For over 35 years, Ernest worked at Nucor Steel. He enjoyed riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed playing pool and cards. Ernest was an accomplished Golden Gloves Boxer. He loved sports and was active in his sons and grandsons’ wrestling activities. Ernest enjoyed country music and listening to the Grand Olde Opry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Claudette Vacha, JoAnn (Bruce) Robertson, and Arneva Drapeau.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Margaret Iron Thunder; children, Curtis William Iron Thunder of Lincoln, Kristin Kay Iron Thunder of Norfolk, Travis Werner Iron Thunder of Norfolk, and James Thomas (Tiffany) Iron Thunder of Bennet; grandchildren, Levi, Lindsay, Lukus, Lanee, and Maximus; great granddaughter, Brielle; sister, Rita (Barry) Pitzer of Verdigre; and nieces and nephews.
