Kay passed away at her home in Norfolk on Monday, November 27, 2023.

With a heavy heart, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and treasured friend was called home to her eternal rest. Kay Hirons Tibbels was born to Lyle “Johnny” and Edna Hirons on September 7, 1938 in Early, Iowa.

Kay grew up in Iowa and graduated from Wayne State College where she met Mike Tibbels. Kay and Mike were married on December 27, 1960. They were blessed with six children, 19 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren (with one on the way). Kay cherished her family.

Kay had many talents and gifts. She was a piano player and loved music. She played for all family gatherings with everyone singing. She even organized family singing engagements in Lincoln with her kids and grandkids and great grandkids. She founded “Just for Fun”, a singing group that performed at nursing homes in and around the Norfolk area. She was generous and always thinking of others. She treated the entire family to multiple vacations and always had cash that she handed out to everyone.

Kay and Mike enjoyed their lifelong very special friends. They could be found having coffee every Tuesday morning. They were so thankful for their friends and often told about how they felt so welcomed when they first moved to Norfolk.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Bonnie, and a nephew, Mike. Kay is survived by her loving husband, Mike, and six children: Anne (Kevin) Hubbell of Lincoln, Mary (Mike) Crosby of Lincoln, John (Katrina) Tibbels of Riverside, CA, Jim Tibbels of Lincoln, Jane (Al) Wentling of Norfolk, and Amy (Tim) Leuschen of Omaha, and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mom always told us, there are two rules to live by - Love God and Love One Another. We all feel so blessed through Jesus Christ to have been loved by Kay (our wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother) and now we give her back to Jesus for him to continue to love her.
