Frederic Grady

Frederic (Fred) M. Grady, born March 6,1953 in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Floyd and Augustina Grady, died September 26, 2024 at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton, Nebraska from losing a battle with kidney failure, after defeating Stage 4 cancer first detected in April 2017.

He is survived by a sister, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and six nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, three brothers, and two nieces.

Life had its share of sorrows and tragedies, erased by the unexpected joys and triumphs God gave him.

He graduated high school 92nd out of a class of 101, and five years later, graduated with somewhat better standing from the University of Nebraska. Deaf from birth, he usually had no idea what was going on around him, but remained carelessly flippant and arrogantly nonchalant. As a rebuke to bullies and tormentors, he finally learned to speak intelligible English at the age of twenty-two.

He went places most avoid, treading heavily on thin ice, and walking lightly on solid ground but usually emerging whole and intact.

Finally tiring of a tumultuous life, he moved to Stanton twenty-three years ago, at last finding peace and quiet. He worked in obscurity at Prime Stop in Hadar for many years.

In life, he thanked God for all others in Norfolk undergoing chemotherapy with him the seven months May through December 2017, each of whom their expressions and manners were underlain with a delicate beauty, daunting courage, and otherworldly serenity, an exclusive group with which he is now reunited in the eternal care of God.
