Funeral services for Frederick E. “Fred” Otten, 84, of Norfolk, will be Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Christ Lutheran Church, in Norfolk starting at 10:30. Reverend Mike Moreno will officiate. Burial will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 27, in Gordon Cemetery, Gordon, NE. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday August 25th at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue, Norfolk. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Otten passed away Sunday, August 22nd, 2021, at Faith Regional Health Services.
Fred was born on December 25, 1936, rural Pilger, the son of John and Emilie (Heermann) Otten. He was raised on the family farm. He attended rural school and graduated from Pilger High School. Fred entered the US Army and served from 1956 to 1963. After his honorable discharge, Fred graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
He was employed by Swift Company in Kansas City prior to him beginning his banking career in Gordon, Nebraska.
On July 14, 1961, Fred married Judith Forster at St. Matthews, rural Pilger.
In 1970, Fred began working at the Commercial State Bank of Hoskins in Hoskins, NE. Later, that bank became Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust, which Fred was the owner and president.
Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, five sons: David (Danele) Otten, Maryville, IL, their children--Dawn, Dustin, Danae and Daniel; Mark (Kim) Otten, Raleigh, NC, their children—Jonathan and Bennett; Jarvis (Lora) Otten, Norfolk, their children—Coty and Cole; Eric (Kim) Otten, Omaha, their children—Nathaniel, Matthew and Joanna; Aaron (Rebecca) Otten, Norfolk, their children—Madeline, Cheyenne and Paige; and daughter, Denise (John) Batcher, Valley, NE, and their children—Tyke and Riggs. He is also survived by 3 brothers—Clem Otten, Greensboro, NC, Arnold Otten, York, NE, John Otten, Fibre, MI; two sisters—Doris (Dick) Benal, Wahoo, NE and Mary (Stan) Henderson, Waukee, IA; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by one son, Timothy, 2 sisters, Gertude Clausen and Ruth Taylor, and 2 brothers, Martin Otten and Franklin Otten.
