Garnett K. “Kay” Juracek

Mass of Christian Burial for Garnett K. “Kay” Juracek, age 79, of Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Patrick McLaughlin will be celebrant, with interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk. 

The Mass will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. 

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk. 

Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Kay passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home in Norfolk with her family by her side.

Garnett Kay Juracek was born June 25, 1944, the seventh of eight children born to Glenn and Opal (Butterfield) Gillogly in Plainview, Nebraska. She was raised on a ranch four miles from Inman, Nebraska. Kay started first grade in a one room school along with classmate, Kay Kelley. They went to all twelve grades together. Kay graduated from Inman High School in 1962. She participated in volleyball, softball, track, band and cheerleading for three years. 

Kay met her future husband Clifford Juracek from Ewing at a dance in Summerland. They were married November 24, 1962, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ewing. They lived in Norfolk, then moved to Juracek Dairy in 1964 where their daughter Peggy was born January 2, 1965. The young family moved back to Norfolk where Clifford worked for Hayes Brothers Pepsi. In 1976, the family purchased land north of Norfolk to build their home. The couple was blessed with four more children. Kay was a stay-at- home mom, until Clifford got Kay a job by purchasing the Office Bar in 1982. She loved every minute of being there. They had wonderful customers and great employees. Junior Leland worked for the bar for twenty-three years. In 1981, they purchased a cabin above the dam and spent many fun times there and it was a great get away.

She loved to travel. Kay enjoyed visiting relatives in Washington, Oregon, California, and Kansas. She enjoyed a memorable trip to Mexico with her best friend Tina Bellar, and a twelve-day trip with Frances Gillogly to Ireland. Kay and Tracy went to Lebanon for the Reiser Wedding. It was the most glamorous wedding she had ever seen. Then, she went to London to visit Jeff Gillogly and family. Kay and Marceline enjoyed many trips to Mexico. 

After they sold the Bar in 2007, Kay went to work at the front desk at the Rode Way Inn for ten years. 

After Clifford passed away in 2018, Kay went to work for Home Instead until she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She enjoyed the nice people she took care of.  

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish and the Rosary Prayer Chain.

Kay loved to do crafts. She always enjoyed being outside working in her garden planting flowers or helping bottle feed new lambs. Kay enjoyed canning and making jams.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Peggy; four brothers, Robert, Gene, James and Tom; two sisters, Marceline McLean and Patsy Coventry; sister-in-law, Donna Gillogy; brothers-in-law, Larry Juracek, John McLean, and Robert Coventry.

Kay is survived by her four children, Bradley Juracek of Lincoln, Tracy Olson of Omaha, Jean Juracek of Omaha and Greg Juracek of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Juracek of Lincoln; five grandsons, Nick Juracek, Jake (McKenzie) Juracek, Sam Juracek, Lucas Juracek, and Brady Stodola; five granddaughters, Michaela Terry, Brooke (Cody) Seaton, Courtney Stodola, Ally Stodola, and Macy Juracek; eight great-grandchildren, Braylon, Kellen, Grayson, Alice, Calli, Sophie, Olivia, Chloe, and Scarlett; brother, Lyle (Frances) Gillogly; sisters-in-law, Edith Kortus, Myrna Juracek, and Linda Thelen; aunt, Zelda Butterfield; wonderful nieces and nephews; the greatest 38 cousins; and great neighbors.
