Inez Swartz

Funeral services for Inez M. Swartz, age 86, of Battle Creek, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Reverend Joseph Leech will officiate, with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Battle Creek.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church.

Steffen Mortuary in Battle Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Inez passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek.

Inez Marie Swartz was born November 29, 1937, in Stanton, Nebraska to Alvin and Myrtle (Pedersen) Blattert. On February 12, 1957, she married John Swartz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk. The couple was blessed with four children, Pamela, Michael, Mark, and Brien. 

For almost 60 years, Inez was a beautician. She owned and operated the Curl Hut in Battle Creek and in retirement she continued to serve her clients at the nursing home. 

She was a talented, colored pencil artist who enjoyed sketching nature scenery.  Inez liked going for walks and she always had a soft spot in her heart for dogs.  She loved her community and church family. 

She is survived by daughter, Pam Sperandio Smith of Grants, NM; sons, Mike (Ann) Swartz of Platte City, MO and Mark Swartz of Norfolk; daughter-in-law, Kathy Swartz of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Henseleit of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews. 

Inez was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Brien; sons-in-law, Jim Sperandio and Jerry Smith; and granddaughter, Chelsea Sperandio.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Battle Creek Public Library, Community Pride Care Center, or the Battle Creek Betterment Club.
