James George Hastreiter, son of George and Viola (Hollatz) Hastreiter, was born December 17, 1941, in Humphrey, Nebraska, attending school at St. Francis. After school he went to work on the family farm.
On September 26, 1962, he was united in marriage with Laurel Jansen at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey. They were blessed with five children.
James was a hard worker with great talent for mechanics and engineering. He could build or fix most anything. Over his 60-year career in farming, he worked alongside his family and neighbors and would run out at the drop of a hat to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was a proud John Deere devotee and loved his propane engines and Chevy pickups.
He is survived by his children, Jane (Tim) Brandenburger of Madison, Larry Hastreiter of Madison, Rhonda (Robert) Stoffel of Madison, and Sandra (Brent) Rozmiarek of Humphrey; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; siblings, Bob (Terri) Hastreiter of Humphrey, Jack Hastreiter of Lincoln, and Georgia (Vern) Hunsley of Grand River, Kentucky; and sister-in-law, Kris Hastreiter of Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laurel; son, Steve; brother, Tom; and sister-in-law, Cheryl.
Casual dress is encouraged.
