Janette Kingsley

Funeral services for Janette Kingsley, age 75, of Platte Center, Nebraska formerly of Stanton, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at New England Congregational Church in Stanton. Reverend Scott Frederickson will officiate, with burial in Stanton Cemetery.

The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Janette “Jan” Sue (Rasmussen) Kingsley passed away peacefully at her home with her husband by her side, in Platte Center, Nebraska, on August 1, 2026.

​Jan was born May 3, 1951, near Blair, Nebraska, to Laurets and Erdine (Wulf) Rasmussen, and was the third of six children. She graduated with the last class of Herman High School in 1969. She earned her LPN degree from the College of Nursing in Norfolk in 1971.

On May 26, 1972, Jan married Thomas (Tom) Kingsley. To this union three sons were born: Scott, Kevin, and Ryan.

Jan started out her nursing career at St. Joseph Nursing Home, in Norfolk. She then worked at the Stanton Nursing Home. She found great joy in being around and helping those in need. Later, Jan managed the Senior Center in Stanton. From there she went to Casey’s. Some of her favorite things there were talking to people and making pizzas. When they moved from Stanton to Platte Center, Jan went to work at Hy-Vee in Columbus.

Jan never knew a stranger. Jan was a social person and loved hearing what they were doing and could talk to anyone. She enjoyed traveling, camping, quilting, summer vacations with the family, and finding a great deal at secondhand places. Once Jan and Tom partially retired, they were able to travel more. Thanks to their son they were even able to go to Japan and Guam.

Jan loved her family and went to all the activities they could. She and Tom would travel up to South Dakota to see the grandkids for sports, concerts and just to be with them. Then they would go down to Texas (when Ryan’s family moved back to the United States) to go to the grandkid’s hobbies and activities. Spending time with her family was one of her favorite pastimes.

Jan enjoyed quilting and making lap quilts for elderly people, ones that were sick, and friends and relatives, along with making big blankets for her kids and grandkids.

Jan’s love for family started when she was a kid and they would get together with the family almost every weekend. She enjoyed playing with cousins. When she was young, she broke her leg when she fell off a horse while on vacation in Wyoming. She had to ride in the back of the pickup for 50 miles to the hospital with a compound fracture.

Later in life, after the boys were in their teens, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a hard two-year fight, she walked away the victor. Then a few years later she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Again, she won the good fight.

Jan is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas Kingsley; sons, Scott (Heather) Kingsley, and Ara of IA, Kevin (Marti) Kingsley, Shaleena, Raelynn, and Bode of SD, and Ryan (Kamery) Kingsley, Kenadee and Joel of TX; siblings, Joyce (Lee) Johnson, Keith (Sandy) Rasmussen, Diane Heath, and Joanne (Hong) Le; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

​She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurets and Erdine Rasmussen; her infant sister, Anita Rasmussen; infant grandson, Jack Dennis Kingsley (son of Ryan and Kamery); nephew, Jason Heath (son of Diane); mother-in-law, Lois Kingsley (Hilliges); and father-in-law, Jack Kingsley.
