Funeral services for Janie G. Witzel, age 70, of Madison, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 9, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. Reverend Todd Kollbaum will officiate, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in rural Madison.
The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the church.
Resseguie Funeral Home in Madison is in charge of arrangements.
Janie died Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska.
Janie Gay Witzel, daughter of Walter and Clara (Knapp) Long, was born August 5, 1954, in Tilden, Nebraska. She attended school in Tilden, graduating from Elkhorn Valley High School in 1972. She completed the LPN program at Northeast Community College in 1973. In 1974, Janie married Dennis Witzel. They were blessed with two sons, Lee and Jason.
A dedicated nurse, Janie devoted her life to helping people. She began her career at the Tilden nursing home, and later worked for many years at Countryside Home in Madison.
She was a hard worker, keeping busy on the farm gardening and canning. She especially enjoyed the sweet corn that was always at the height of its season just in time for her birthday and was famous in Madison for her cherry-mulberry-rhubarb pies.
Janie is survived by her husband, Dennis; sons, Lee and Jason Witzel; grandchildren, Tayzlee, Jace, and Breylin Witzel; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Jean.
