Janis Stolp

Funeral services for Janis (Smith) Stolp, age 77, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Congregational United Church of Christ in Brunswick, Nebraska. Pastor Bob Moore will officiate, with burial in Brunswick Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.

Janis died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Janis Lynn (Smith) Stolp was born September 11, 1946, in Plainview, Nebraska to Vernon and Dona (Middleton) Smith. She grew up in Brunswick, graduating from Brunswick High School in 1965, with the very last class that would attend the school before it consolidated with Plainview. After high school, Janis attended business school in Lincoln before moving to Norfolk, where she worked downtown at Gamble’s dime store.

In 1968, Janis married Bill Stolp at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. The couple lived on Bill’s parents’ farm southwest of Creighton for a time, before moving to Janis’ parents’ farm southwest of Plainview, and finally settling in Brunswick, where they lived for many years before moving to Norfolk in 2010.

Janis was devoted to her family. She loved raising her three children and later, spending time with her grandchildren. She never lost her playful, young-at-heart spirit. Janis had an active mind and enjoyed coloring, reading, word finds, and puzzles. She was stylish, with great fashion sense, was very organized and tidy, and loved Elvis.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Roxanne (Corwin) Horst of Plainview, Michelle (Kevin) Albin of Norfolk, and Ryan (Rachel) Stolp of Plainview; grandchildren, Colton Horst, Hailee (Andrew) Nelson, Tanner Stolp, and Arianna Stolp; great-granddaughter, Olivia Horst; brothers, David Smith and Tim (Ann) Smith; brother-in-law, Kenny Stolp; aunts, uncles, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Dona Smith; grandparents, Burt and Elsie Middleton and Orie and Josephine Smith; in-laws, Orville Stolp, Martha Stolp, and Floss Stolp; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara (Stolp) and John Herout; sister-in-law, Peggy Stolp; aunts and uncles; and one great-niece.
