Jim passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Norfolk.

James "Jim" Patrick Lafleur was born on March 17, 1934, in Madison, Nebraska, to Marie (Olmer) and Rafael Lafleur. He married the love of his life, Lisabeth "Libby" Linn, on July 11, 1970, in Omaha, Nebraska, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Hawaii and was a member of the Rifle Team. Following his military service, he dedicated almost 40 years of his professional life to the United States Soil Conservation Service, work that reflected his deep connection to the land and his commitment to preserving it for future generations. Throughout his career, Jim and his family made their home in Pierce, Nelson, and finally Norfolk, Nebraska.

An exceptional athlete in his youth, Jim played football at the University of Nebraska. His love of athletics was something he joyfully passed on to his son Bill, spending countless hours teaching and mentoring him. Jim was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman who found peace and joy in hunting and fishing, often sharing these passions with family and friends.

Jim was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk, Nebraska, where his faith provided him strength and community throughout his life.

Those who knew Jim will remember him for his favorite sayings: “Keep Shooting” and "You only make that circle once, so you better make it big!"—a mantra that captured his zest for life and serves as an inspiration for all who loved him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Libby; his daughter Kristi and her husband Jesse Rosales of Burr Ridge; his son Bill Lafleur and his wife Jade of Norfolk; and six cherished grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Rafael Lafleur; and his brother William "Bill" Lafleur.

Jim's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him—a man who truly made his circle big, touching countless lives with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family.
