Joyce died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk.

Joyce Gallu was born April 15, 1933, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to George and Freda Redinger. She grew up in St. Joseph with her brother Harold (Dean) Redinger. As a young girl, Joyce attended the Church of the Nazarene with her grandmother, where she met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived her entire life in service to Him. She graduated from St. Joseph Central High School and attended Griffon Junior College. She married George Gallu on November 7, 1952.  During their time in St. Joe, they welcomed three children: John Riley, Randy, and Marcy.  When Marcy was two months old, they moved to Atlantic, Iowa, living there until they relocated to Norfolk, Nebraska, their lifetime home, in 1961.

Faith and family prevailed in Joyce’s life. Being home to raise her children gave her an opportunity to influence their lives at home and church where they, too, learned the truth of God’s Word. At First Baptist, Joyce was active in VBS, Ladies Aid, Bible Study, church choir, and the Nebraska Federation of Women’s Clubs.   Most significantly, she taught Sunday School at First Baptist, Norfolk, for 43 consecutive years. During a season of life, she regularly hosted a weekly Bible Study in her home. Joyce enjoyed cooking and baking, and her family was especially fond of her special meals and desserts. Joyce was a seamstress most of her life, constructing clothing mainly for herself and Marcy.  She made pantsuits, tops, two prom dresses and maternity clothes.  The pantsuits disappeared when jeans were deemed acceptable school dress code.  Oh, and she made a Nehru jacket for Randy when he was in his rock band stage.

Joyce enjoyed traveling with George, with trips to Europe, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and other destinations. She hosted regular bridge, playing with her friends, serving delicious treats and drink.  Of all the things she enjoyed, her favorite pass time was spending time with her family. The family is so thankful to have shared in her 90th birthday celebration last April.

On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Joyce passed away peacefully at BelAir Nursing home at the age of 90.

Joyce is survived by her children, John Riley (Rachel Johnson) Gallu of Lincoln, Nebraska; Randy (Sybil) Gallu of Fort Collins, Colorado; and Marcy (Chuck) Wolkow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Grandchildren, Sam Gallu, Prospect, Connecticut; Jake Gallu, Ankeny, Iowa; Riley Gallu, Fort Collins, Colorado, Molly Gallu, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Tim (Kristin) Wolkow, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kelley (Mark) Lund, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great grandchildren, Kai Gallu of Fruita, Colorado; Kate Lund, Aiden Lund, and Charlie Lund, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, George and Freda Redinger; her husband, George Gallu; her brother, Harold Dean (Josey) Redinger, and her granddaughter, Abby Jane Wolkow.
