Judy Armbruster Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Judy Armbruster, age 83, of Norfolk, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Norfolk. Reverend Vincent Germace will be celebrant, with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Avenue in Norfolk, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service. Following the Vigil Service, special honors will be provided by the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard.

Judy died Friday, October 11, 2024, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Judith “Judy” Armbruster was born September 5, 1941, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Thelma and Louis Arnold. She attended High School at O’Gorman High School in Sioux Falls. Judy then attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s/Creighton College of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduation, Judy worked at St. Joseph’s/Creighton Hospital in Omaha.

Upon meeting her husband, Tom Armbruster, Judy moved to the Norfolk area and worked at Lutheran Hospital and then was the charge nurse on second floor at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Norfolk. During her career in the 1980’s, Judy received her bachelor’s degree in nursing at UNO in Omaha and graduated with honors.

Judy went on to start the Practical Nursing Program with Anita Brenneman at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. She worked as the Assistant Director of the Practical Nursing Program until she retired in 2005.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and her many friends. Judy also loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved life and it loved her right back.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Louie; husband, Thomas; daughter, Anne-Marie; and her grandson, Johnny Cannone.

She is survived by her brothers, Jerry and wife Denise Arnold and Jim Arnold and partner Judi Mattson; children, Jennifer Armbruster of Norfolk, Jeff and Sara (Flood) Armbruster of Norfolk, and Julie Armbruster of Norfolk; grandchildren, Bianca, Emma, Elleani, Ava, and Jack Armbruster; and a brother-in-law, Terry and wife Joy Armbruster.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation for a scholarship at Northeast Community College of Nursing.
